Academic Requirements
High school seniors are encouraged to apply for admission early
in their senior year, and are accepted contingent upon receiving
a diploma. A student who has completed high school or received an
Equivalency Diploma (GED) may apply at any time. To file for admission,
applicants must fill out an enrollment application and pay a non-refundable
$50.00 fee. Upon acceptance to the College, a student must complete
an English placement examination to determine whether a developmental
course is necessary.
Transfer Students
To receive transfer credits, students must provide official transcripts
from accredited post secondary schools previously attended. All
transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to
the Office of Admissions at NYCI. At the discretion of NYCI, transfer
credits may be granted for courses taken at other schools in which
a grade of "C" or better was earned. Courses transferred
must be applicable and equivalent to corresponding courses for which
the student is seeking credit at the College.
Foreign students applying for admission must submit official secondary
school transcripts as well as college transcripts, if applicable,
with their applications.
Advanced Standing
Advanced placement opportunities are given to students through
a policy approved by the Board of Directors which reflects the College's
policies regarding the use of credit allowed for life experience
and examination.
Applicants who request credit for experience must apply at the
time of enrollment. To verify that the applicant possesses the knowledge
and skill proficiencies required to receive credit, each will be
required to pass a knowledge or skills test which will be administered
by the appropriate Program Director prior to the starting of school.
These examinations determine placement at the appropriate course
level. At the discretion of the academic departments or programs,
students may take departmental challenge examinations* to demonstrate
college-level competency in courses that have not been taken at
NYCI (or any other college), and for which no credit has already
been received.
Credit will be transcripted as "CR" and is not part of
the GPA calculation.
*Students may not test out of more than 50 percent
of the program for which they are enrolled.
